Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) in a joint operation with Securities Commission and Polis Di-Raja Malaysia raided the premises of Astromax Sdn. Bhd., a company suspected of conducting illegal deposit taking activities under the pretext of spot commodity trading in contravention of Section 25(1) of the Banking and Financial Institutions Act 1989 (BAFIA). The company is also suspected of committing offences under the Futures Industry Act 1993 and the Penal Code for cheating.
The residences of the directors of the company were also raided by the agencies during the operation. Relevant documents were seized for the purpose of investigation.
The joint raids were conducted in Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru and Pulau Pinang following complaints received from members of the public.
Statements were taken from staff of the company and members of the public present during the raid to assist in the investigations being carried out by the three agencies.
